WindEurope released its wind energy outlook, saying that the increasing capacity of wind turbines will drive growth, and that turbines over 4 megawatts are now the norm in the field of onshore wind power, while offshore turbines have a capacity of more than 8 megawatts. Of the new capacity expected during the five-year period, onshore wind power was 70.4 GW and offshore wind power was 16.5 GW.
The country with the highest wind capacity in 2022 will still be Germany. By 2022, Germany's wind capacity will reach 73 GW, although the share of new capacity will fall from an average of 40% over the past five years to 24%. This is followed by Spain, with a capacity of 30 GW, while the UK will add 26 GW. According to WindEurope, Spain and Sweden will achieve strong growth and record years in 2019. This is also expected in the Benelux, Norway, Turkey and France.
Although it is expected to achieve steady growth by 2022, WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson said that the prospects for new investment decisions over the next five years are less clear, as most governments still lack the deployment plan for new wind farms by 2030.
According to Dickson, the National Energy and Climate Program of 2030 will clarify national goals for new renewable energy, which will be crucial.
According to previous data, in 2018, WindEurope expects the European wind power industry to increase its new capacity by 13.5 GW, of which the offshore installed capacity is 3.3 GW and the onshore installed capacity is 10.2 GW.
