Energy Internet enters the accelerating development channel, and the distribution network becomes the "main battlefield"

As an advanced form of energy system evolution that fully integrates production, transmission, storage, consumption and markets, the Energy Internet is not only an important platform for the large-scale development, deployment, and use of clean energy, but also a breakthrough in energy development resource constraints, environmental constraints, and time and space constraints. Fundamental strategy.

"Energy Internet is a new type of energy system, renewable energy is given priority, based on electricity, so under the'dual carbon' goal, the core form of the energy Internet is to build a new power system with new energy as the main body." In October At the 2021 National Energy Internet Conference held on the 13th, Gao Feng, from the Institute of Energy Internet Innovation of Tsinghua University, said.

The "2021 National Energy Internet Development Annual Report" released on the same day shows that the development of the Energy Internet has gone through the concept of 1970-2003, preliminary research in 2004-2013, set sail in 2014-2016, and pilot demonstrations in 2017-2019. , And the five stages of diversified development from 2020 to present. Entering 2020, with the proposal of the "dual-carbon" goal, the energy Internet will enter a more focused accelerated development channel. The government and all sectors of industry, academia and research are actively taking action, guided by policy mechanisms, with technological innovation as the starting point, and industry Transformation as the core, seek layout.

The distribution network becomes the "main battlefield"

The profound adjustment of the energy pattern has made the power supply structure, form, load characteristics, and operating characteristics of the power grid possess new features, and the construction of a new power system is urgently needed to be accelerated.

Liu Haitao from the National Online Energy Internet Research Institute believes that the distribution network will become the main battlefield for the construction of a new power system. Aiming at the realization of the "dual-carbon" strategic goal, the distribution network will undergo major changes, from a channel-type facility that focuses on power transmission and distribution to a platform-type that focuses on resource aggregation, optimization, exchange, and equal transactions between all stakeholders. infrastructure.

He Yongjian, Director of the Strategic Planning Department of the State Power Investment Group Co., Ltd., also believes that the core of the new power system with new energy as the main body is "new type", and the distribution network will become the leading force in power development.

"It should be noted that the new power system on the distribution network is facing many development challenges. The development of the distribution network is changing fast, but its development is currently unbalanced and insufficient; the planning and construction of the distribution network is more difficult to implement, and operation control security risks There has been a sudden increase, and the demand for energy service interaction is diversified." Liu Haitao reminded.

In his view, the development of new power systems on the distribution network side in the future will be through the innovation of key technologies and equipment at the equipment layer, network layer, platform layer, and application layer to "clean and low-carbon, safe and reliable, flexible interaction, transparent and efficient" To achieve the goal, to maximize the acceptance of new energy power generation and new flexible loads, to achieve economic efficiency and optimization of operation, and to support the accelerated construction of a modern energy system.

On the other hand, since March of this year, China Southern Power Grid has also carried out in-depth research on the construction of a new power system, and proposed a four-stage construction path. Through top-level design, distributed implementation, and orderly promotion of the construction of the new power system, it will strive to achieve the goal by 2030. A new type of power system was basically completed before.

"The most important feature of the new power system is new energy as the main body, "two highs and three characteristics" (Note: the two highs are high proportions of new energy access and high-ratio power electronic equipment applications; the three characteristics are randomness and volatility. (And intermittent) characteristics will bring two challenges, one is power security, and the other is the decrease in inertia." China Southern Power Grid Research Institute Zeng Yonggang admitted frankly.

Taking Yunnan Power Grid and Guangdong Power Grid as examples, the wind power output can be guaranteed to be around 5% under 90% probability during peak hours throughout the year. Based on this calculation, by 2030, China Southern Power Grid's new energy installed capacity will reach 250 million kilowatts. Calculated by 5%, the installed replacement capacity is only 12.5 million kilowatts, and a large number of conventional units still need to be planned for power protection.

“Currently, China Southern Power Grid and Yunnan Power Grid have achieved asynchronous, Guangdong Power Grid is undergoing flexible DC interconnection, and China Southern Power Grid has gradually become 3 to 4 AC synchronous power grids. This will have a greater impact on the inertia of the system. Building a new type of power system will not System inertia should be paid more attention to, especially the problem of frequency synchronization and stability of AC synchronous power grid." Zeng Yonggang reminded, "The biggest challenge Europe now faces is the problem of inertia decline."

"Through the investigation of some European experience, there are several aspects that can be used for reference. The first is to focus on enhancing inertia, the second is to increase frequency support, the third is to strengthen regional interconnection, and the fourth is to have flexible adjustment capabilities." Zeng Yonggang suggested.

It is understood that, in order to build a new power system, China Southern Power Grid is focusing on breaking through eight key technologies, involving large-scale economical energy storage application technology, new energy comprehensively observable and controllable technology, probabilistic power and electricity balance technology at different time scales, New power system inertia evaluation and frequency operation control technology, highly power electronic power system harmonics and oscillation suppression technology, large-scale new energy access panoramic simulation technology, power electronic converter equipment network control technology, electricity-carbon Linkage operation technology, etc.

New energy penetration requires technical support

The rise of the energy Internet wave has provided a powerful starting point for promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional power grids, and has also brought development opportunities for the cultivation of new industries such as clean energy and green environmental protection. Many companies are rushing to "enter".

China Huaneng Group Clean Energy Technology Research Institute Li Weidong said that energy is a fundamental industry for China’s economic development. If we want to build trillions of new energy in the desert and Gobi, we must rely on the new means of the Energy Internet to solve this problem.

"The five characteristics of renewable, distributed, interconnected, open, and intelligent, basically outline the characteristics of a new power system with new energy as the main body. We are building a high-proportion renewable energy technology research and development system." Li Weidong said.

With the construction of a high-proportion renewable energy technology system, the penetration rate of new energy represented by wind, solar, and storage is also increasing.

Lai Xiaowen, CTO of Beijing Qingneng Interconnection Technology Co., Ltd. reminded, “Under the relatively low penetration rate of new energy, it is still possible to stimulate the response and interaction of existing resources through the optimization of system scheduling and the incentives of market mechanisms to promote the consumption of new energy. However, when the penetration rate of new energy reaches a relatively high state, it is necessary to carry out corresponding work on the technical addition and upgrading of power supply, power grid, load, energy storage and so on."

In his view, many companies are in urgent need of technical methods and tools for planning and operating simulation of new power systems, but traditional planning and simulation tools have five relative shortcomings. That is, there is a lack of models for low-carbon planning; it is impossible to simulate the random output of new energy; it is usually only developed for the typical operation mode of the power system, and brand-new tools are urgently needed; a large amount of model data and boundary condition data are required; and the degree of visualization is low.

"In response to the above shortcomings, we proposed a dual-carbon goal-oriented source-network-load-storage collaborative planning and operation simulation solution. The model and data are further aggregated into services, and corresponding services are provided at the data layer, computing layer and display layer. Support capabilities to support the six upper-level applications, including grid model construction, operating scenario prediction, collaborative planning and optimization, continuous operation simulation, big data mining and analysis, and panoramic comprehensive display." Lai Xiaowen said.

It is worth mentioning that, as the core of the interaction between the supply and demand of the energy Internet, the development of energy storage is highly anticipated.

"In the future, 60% to 70% of the energy storage market will come from the consumption of new energy. According to the National Development and Reform Commission's expectations, the energy storage market will grow tenfold in the next five years." Analysis by Zhang Jianhui, Beijing Haibo Stron Technology Co., Ltd. .

He further suggested, “We must consider how new energy can jointly participate in power market transactions with energy storage, even if it is a strong allocation, to promote the consumption of new energy. On the basis of satisfying economic efficiency, there are more new energy allocations. Locally, shared energy storage power stations can be built to serve the surrounding new energy consumption, while accepting grid dispatching and participating in the peak and frequency modulation of the grid."
